Last weekend I was fortunate enough to hop in the car with my favorite kindergarten teacher, Jonelle Bell from A Place Called Kindergarten, and head to French Lick, Indiana to be a part of an amazing teacher blogger event. The AMAZING Mrs. Ehle from Kindergarten Connections organized, planned, and pulled off an incredible event that brought teachers and bloggers together from all over the country. I must confess that I am terrible about getting pictures because I get so caught up with chit-chatting and forget to capture the moments. Here are a few of the highlights from our weekend.
The learning sessions began with inspirational videos and a whole group introduction by table to create this mantra for the weekend…”Take your passion and make it happen!” Also, a line from Flash Dance, a favorite from my early years… We then had fifteen minute breakout sessions where we had the chance to take in as much as we could about different teaching resources and strategies, collaborative blogging, and social media tools. I have a folder filled with information that I am still processing and working to implement.
While the goodies provided by so many different sponsors were abundant, it was the Teacher Gift Exchange that was my favorite. Again, no pictures because I was too caught up in the fun, but the idea was to bring items that you can’t live without in your classroom, wrap them up, and exchange with another same grade level teacher. I brought thank you notes, decorative binder clips, and my favorite See’s Candy lollipops. I received a pencil box FILLED with all of the necessary teacher essentials.
I met Tricia in Las Vegas last year at one of the meet-ups during the Tpt conference. We have kept in touch through Instagram, but it was awesome to sit down and have drinks and dinner together. She is blinged out in all of her Tricia’s Terrific Teaching Trinkets logos (she even has a magnet for her car) and her energy is non-stop. Her positive energy is inspiring. Her students are lucky to have her. I can’t wait to see you again in Orlando, my friend.
We had dinner with friends and then got decked out for the 80’s party! I must confess that the 80s were not a decade that was my favorite…with neon EVERYTHING, tacky hair, extra hair spray, everything jelly, rocker chic, etc. I have just never been a BIG FAN! However, after hearing the music and seeing the outfits that people put together, I am a reformed 80s fan. From the pics you can tell, this wasn’t the prettiest decade, but teachers sure know how to have fun with it!
I have the opportunity to blog on a collaborative blog with some incredible teachers. Beth Freuh and Kristen Doyle are two of the incredible gals that I have collaborated with for a year, but never met in person. We are Facebook and social media friends. You may only understand those bonds if you have participated in a collaborative blog or FB teaching group. It was so great to meet them, hear hilarious stories, and plan for our next meet-up in Orlando in July.
If you were on the fence and didn’t attend this fun-filled event, be sure to sign-up next year. The connections and friendships made from these gatherings are priceless!
Check out these other amazing teacher bloggers! Hope to see you in French Lick next year!
