I have some AMAZING friends who work really hard to practice what they preach. One friend in particular inspires me every. single. day. In addition to being an incredible 6th grade math teacher, he began the non-profit Norwood Connection. I have a bazillion favorite stories about how Christian has worked to help so many students and their families, but each day he works tirelessly to make Sharpsburg Elementary a better, pride-filled place. He has built soccer goals for the school playground, convinced sealing companies to paint a walking track and football field on our school blacktop, all while teaching full-time and taking care of the pressing needs of students and their families through Norwood Connection.
Norwood Connection exclusively assists families who have children in the Norwood City Schools in Norwood, Ohio. Families are referred to Norwood Connection by school staff and partner organizations. The Norwood Connection team works with selected Norwood families to identify their most pressing needs. Once identified, they set out to address each need through outreach to personal donors, partner organizations, or via reasonably priced purchasing options. My friend, Christian and his wife Randi, work tirelessly to connect Norwood families with the key resources that make things just a bit easier. In order to do my part for their incredible efforts, today, December 13, 2015, I will donate 100% OF MY SALES to Norwood Connection.
This holiday season if you have some items on your classroom resource wish list, know that by purchasing them today, you will not only be getting awesome tools to make your teaching instruction easier, but you will also be helping other families in more ways than you can ever imagine. Here are some of the ways your donations will help Norwood families:
- Household needs – Air conditioner, refrigerators, microwaves, furniture, beds, cookware, bedbug removal, maintenance
- Financial Consultation – Balancing checkbook, helping to manage finances.
- Educational assistance – Locating classes, mentoring on line classes, proctoring assessments, tutoring
- Employment assistance – Job searching, filling out applications, locating daycare, transportation
